Darnell Moses

Darnell Moses is the Deputy Director at Sustainable Pittsburgh. Moses works closely with Sustainable Pittsburgh’s Executive Director to develop and execute strategy across internal departments; he will have oversight responsibility over programming, communications, and policy.

Most recently, Moses was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Equitable and Sustainable Communities within the Falk School of Sustainability and Environment at Chatham University. While there he taught courses on Corporate Social Responsibility, Leadership for Transitions to Sustainability and Sustainable Cities, as well as initiated partnerships with organizations similar in mission.

Following seven years as the Administrator of Contracts and Compliance for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Moses spent approximately 17 years in community and economic development, first with the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development. There he spent 10 years as the Manager of Development Authorities, including the Redevelopment Authority. In this capacity, he governed all aspects of each Authority. Under Moses’ supervision, these Authorities financed more than $10 billion dollars for major institutions. In addition, he created several initiatives such as a grant fund and a fund for municipalities to operate more efficiently. Moses also spent time consulting, primarily with nonprofit entities, to help maximize their organizational capabilities.

Moses volunteers with the nonprofit Grounded Strategies, where he serves as Vice President of their Board of Directors. Moses has a BA in Legal Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a JD from Duquesne University School of Law.
