Collective Impact

What is Collective Impact?

Collective impact occurs when organizations and/or individuals strategically come together to solve complex problems. Elements critical to achieving collective impact include:

  • Shared goals
  • A common set of measures
  • Consistent and open communication
  • Activities that reinforce the individual work of all parties involved.

Projects at Sustainable Pittsburgh

Sustainable Pittsburgh is engaged in several projects that are leading toward collective impact in our region.

District PGH is a collaborative of local organizations working to accelerate neighborhood and district-scale sustainable development that promotes climate resilience and equity in the greater Pittsburgh region. In addition to Sustainable Pittsburgh, members include New Sun Rising, Green Building Alliance, The Forbes Funds, and evolveEA.

The Plastics Collaborative is a nascent group working to respond to the challenge of single use plastics in the region. With Sustainable Pittsburgh serving as the backbone organization, more than a dozen organizations are exploring policies, pilot projects, and messaging to move the needle on more sustainable options.
