SCDN WEBINAR: Coordinating Road Construction and Repair with Utilities

8-8-2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Have you ever paved a road only to have a Utility come by three months later needing to dig it up to reach their infrastructure that lies beneath?

This is an occurrence that happens all too regularly in municipalities across Pennsylvania, and is an issue that has been a central topic of discussion at CONNECT, a membership organization comprised of the City of Pittsburgh and 43 municipalities that surround the City. How can municipalities and utilities better coordinate to share paving and constructions plans to avoid duplication of effort and save and share costs? For one, hosting regular face-to-face meetings between parties has led to better relationships and enhanced collaboration. Next, enter: Coordinate PA.

Introduced by Pennsylvania 811, Coordinate PA is an online map-based platform that allows projects owners, municipalities, and utilities to upload and share their planned construction and paving plans. Available to all PA One Call customers at no cost, Coordinate PA allows municipalities and utilities to visually compare planned construction projects in order to identify areas of potential collaboration. A few clicks and access to the planned construction projects of all of the utilities operating within your municipality, shown on the same map alongside your municipal projects can be available.

Join CONNECT in partnership with Local Government Academy and the Sustainable Community Development Network (SCDN), a program of Sustainable Pittsburgh, to learn more about Coordinate PA from Marcos Bernal, Liasion Representative, Pennsylvania One Call, and about enhancing coordination between parties from Kristen Michaels, Executive Director of CONNECT.

This webinar will feature a live Coordinate PA demonstration that will map an audience project in real time, and a presenter Q & A.
