SUMMARY:The Workforce Reset: Labor Shortages and the Future of our Economy
DESCRIPTION:Workforce shortages are emerging as a defining challenge for communities across Southwestern Pennsylvania\, as population decline and an aging demographic reshape the region’s labor supply. Join Sustainable Pittsburgh for the upcoming Policy Connection webinar\, The Workforce Reset: Labor Shortages and the Future of our Economy. The program will explore how these structural trends are impacting economic growth\, essential services\, and community stability.  \n\n\n\nThis virtual conversation will bring together an academic perspective on labor market dynamics\, a community case study highlighting how a post-industrial region is navigating population and workforce change\, and a local workforce and industry perspective on building stronger talent pipelines. Experts will examine how communities can respond through coordinated workforce\, economic development\, and community strategies to support long-term regional resilience. \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:The Pittsburgh Tomorrow Intersection: Black\, Gold\, and GREEN
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Pittsburgh Tomorrow \n\n\n\n“Green” may not be among the first words that come to mind when people think of Pittsburgh\, but in the future\, it could be. Our natural surroundings are a huge asset and a big draw for living in this city. Newcomers to the area are often surprised by how green and verdant the area is\, and many residents cite our natural beauty as a key reason they love living here. From the rivers and hills to the trees and parks\, Pittsburghers love the nature in our backyard. \n\n\n\nOf course\, Pittsburgh has a fraught history when it comes to the environment\, and we must acknowledge and contend with decades of industrial disruption and pollution. But the conservationist movement here – spearheaded by both individuals and prominent organizations – has made a lot of progress in helping us to reclaim and rebuild. At this Pittsburgh Tomorrow Intersection\, some of the region’s leading conservationists discuss what modern stewardship looks like\, why it’s important\, and how we can all conserve and promote Pittsburgh’s natural surroundings for future generations. \n\n\n\nFeaturing: \n\n\n\n\n• Thomas Saunders\, President and CEO of Western Pennsylvania Conservancy\n\n\n\n• Caily Grube\, Executive Director of Allegheny Cleanways\n\n\n\n• Richard Piacentini\, President and CEO at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens\n\n\n\n• Kelsey Ripper\, Executive Director at Friends of the Riverfront\n\n\n\n• Bhavini Patel\, Executive Director of Sustainable Pittsburgh\n\n\n\n• Joanna Lemmon\, Partnership Manager – Midwest to Mid-Atlantic at the Student Conservation Association\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Growing the Inclusive Green Workforce Pipeline in Pittsburgh
DESCRIPTION:Grounded Strategies is exploring the creation of the Grounded Futures Lab\, an outdoor experiential learning and research space built on formerly vacant land in a Pittsburgh environmental justice community. The vision is to create a place where students can engage directly with sustainability technologies and practices while building pathways toward green careers. \n\n\n\nAs part of the early planning phase of this initiative\, Grounded Strategies is convening educators\, workforce leaders\, and sustainability industry professionals to explore an important question: \n\n\n\nHow can Pittsburgh build a stronger and more inclusive pipeline from K–12 education into sustainability and green technology careers? \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Data Centers and Construction Employment
DESCRIPTION:Presented by ReImagine Appalachia \n\n\n\nThe development of data centers must include true stakeholder engagement and proper safeguards for workers\, communities\, and the land. Data infrastructure is a growing driver of construction employment. Last year\, the industry spent over $30 billion on data center investments and estimates suggest that number will exceed $3 trillion over the next five years. \n\n\n\nHow can we ensure that construction jobs created by data centers are good jobs for local residents that provide good wages\, high safety standards\, and open career pathways through on the job training opportunities?  \n\n\n\nHear from Marshall Brown\, Director at Mid-Atlantic LECET\, and other partners in the region working to ensure that data center construction jobs are good jobs. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue
