SUMMARY:Building Up Heat Pump Contractor Networks: Lessons Learned from Massachusetts\, Maine\, and New York
DESCRIPTION:Easy access to qualified contractors is key to scaling up residential heat pump use. In New Jersey and Pennsylvania\, it can be very difficult for consumers – even those highly committed to transitioning to high-efficiency\, electric heating – to find a knowledgeable and skilled contractor. How can we transform the market to address this problem\, especially as Pennsylvania rolls out its Home Electrification & Appliance Rebates and demand grows? We can start by learning from neighboring states who have made impressive headway on electrification.Join the Energy Efficiency Alliance for a webinar featuring speakers with expertise on New York’s\, Maine’s\, and Massachusetts’s residential contractor programs. They will speak to successes won and obstacles overcome in their programs\, sharing lessons learned that other states can draw upon to formulate plans that work for them. \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Energy Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Energy Exchange remains one of the best opportunities for agencies to ensure their workforce understands leadership direction\, priorities\, goals\, and strategies. It’s also a unique opportunity to fulfill training mandates in alignment with legislative and administration workforce development objectives. The event provides a place to network with energy and water professionals leading to development and implementation solutions that can make the federal government a leader in the transition to a clean energy economy. \n\n\n\nSustainable Pittsburgh’s executive director\, Joylette Portlock\, Ph.D.\, along with other esteemed speakers will outline the critical role the federal government can play in making the American energy economy more equitable and climate-resilient. \n\n\n\nThe Energy Exchange Paves the Way to Environmental Justice! \n\n\n\nFor decades\, low-income and disadvantaged communities have carried more than their fair share of energy costs. Crumbling infrastructures\, contaminated water\, excess pollution\, and higher energy prices are all exaggerated in these communities. In his first week in office\, President Biden issued Executive Order 14008 establishing a goal that 40% of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities. It’s called the Justice40 Initiative. Learn more by visiting https://www.whitehouse.gov/environmentaljustice/justice40/ \n\n\n\nEnergy Exchange\, hosted by the Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP)\, represents the largest agency-driven training event and tradeshow for the for the federal energy and water management community. Energy Exchange brings experts together from federal\, state and local governments\, utilities\, and the private sector to identify new and emerging technologies and leverage lessons learned to combat the climate crisis. This year’s event is being hosted in Pittsburgh\, PA from March 26-28\, 2024. Check out our website for more information: https://www.energy-exchange.com/ \n\n\n\nHow Energy Exchange is Helping \n\n\n\nAs our nation pivots to clean energy and a sustainable environment\, we have a unique opportunity to ensure that disadvantaged communities receive the benefits of new and existing Federal investments in these areas. \n\n\n\nIn support of the Justice40 Initiative\, Energy Exchange is offering no cost registrations to select qualifying applicantsto help ensure the benefits of federal energy and water management training\, networking\, and trade show attendance support individuals from or who work with disadvantaged communities. Visit this interactive map to view identified disadvantaged communities to see if you may qualify for this opportunity: https://screeningtool.geoplatform.gov/en/#3/33.47/-97.5 \n\n\n\nIf your organization is located in or works directly with disadvantaged communities\, visit https://www.energy-exchange.com/justice40/ for more information and to apply for the Justice40 Initiative rate. By filling the energy and water management community with well-trained experts from disadvantaged communities\, we’ll help ensure more clean energy jobs and greater environmental justice for all. \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Priority Climate Action Plan
DESCRIPTION:As part of the IRA\, the DEP is administering a new grant program funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to combat damaging climate pollution. The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program will use the funding to provide grants to states\, local governments\, tribes\, and territories to develop climate action plans and implement projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air co-pollutants. This program aims to achieve three objectives: \n\n\n\n\nTackle damaging climate pollution while supporting the creation of good jobs and lowering energy costs for families.\n\n\n\nAccelerate work to address environmental injustice and empower community-driven solutions in overburdened neighborhoods.\n\n\n\nDeliver cleaner air by reducing harmful air pollution in places where people live\, work\, play\, and go to school.\n\n\n\n\nBy reducing these GHG emissions and other air pollutants\, we can reduce the human impact on the environment and improve health outcomes related to climate hazards. The CPRG program has two funding phases: planning and implementation.Outreach and EngagementDuring the planning phase\, the commonwealth will develop climate action plans that identify emissions reduction measures. The Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) by March 1\, 2024\, and a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) by July 1\, 2025. The PCAP will include greenhouse gas reductions that are a priority for Pennsylvania communities and businesses\, focusing on strategies for the industrial sector. As a part of our engagement process\, DEP is hosting meetings in communities around the state\, as well as this virtual session\, to convene with residents\, learn about their needs and climate concerns\, and incorporate their priorities into its PCAP. Public outreach will continue through the end of the CPRG Planning Phase in 2027. \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:SCDN Policy Connection: Activating Carbon-Emissions Reduction Through Energy Efficiency Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: \n\n\n\nJoin Sustainable Pittsburgh\, the Energy Efficiency Alliance\, and Franklin Energy for the SCDN Policy Connection: Activating Carbon-Emissions Reduction through Energy Efficiency Strategies webinar on Tuesday\, December 5th to learn more about how energy efficiency can benefit buildings\, transportation\, industry\, and other sectors through cost savings\, improved health\, electricity reliability\, and meaningful carbon-emissions reductions. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFeatured presentations will be given by the Energy Efficiency Alliance on resources that are available now and what can be expected in the future to support energy efficiency technologies and practices. Duquesne Light Company and Franklin Energy will provide information that small businesses and local governments can use to advance their carbon reduction goals through energy efficiency. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe program will also feature a preview of the upcoming Carbon Reduction Sprint\, a fun and friendly\, 6-month competition for organizations to compete against peers in earning points for actions that advance carbon-emissions reduction. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBackground: \n\n\n\nEnergy efficiency offers one of the most compelling opportunities to reduce carbon emissions\, yet its benefits depend on how communities\, businesses and other organizations commit to taking action now and for the long-term. Through energy efficiency\, buildings\, transportation\, industry\, and other sectors can benefit from cost savings\, improved health\, electricity reliability\, and carbon-emissions reduction potential. Opportunities to decarbonize via energy efficiency exist for schools and municipal buildings\, small businesses\, restaurants\, commercial buildings\, and more! Moreover\, Pennsylvania expects to receive at least $67 million for clean energy from resources activated by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Combined with uncapped tax incentives available from the Inflation Reduction Act for existing or new decarbonization strategies\, energy efficiency is poised to be a key component of any decarbonization strategy. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFeatured Speakers: \n\n\n\n\nDave DefideSenior Manager of Customer ProgramsDuquesne Light Company\n\n\n\nRachel GoodgalGovernment Affairs ManagerEnergy Efficiency Alliance\n\n\n\nKelly HendersonDirector of ProgramsSustainable Pittsburgh\n\n\n\nMatt MahoneyDirector of Government AffairsSustainable Pittsburgh\n\n\n\nLiz McQuaideSenior Program ManagerFranklin Energy\n\n\n\nLeslie RhoadsSustainability CoordinatorPennsylvania Municipal League\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue
