SUMMARY:Inspire Speakers Series presents Mobility\, Health\, and Justice in the Clean Transportation Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Provided by: Green Building Alliance \nHow can electric vehicle innovations and the advancement of our mobility systems contribute to healthy\, thriving\, and equitable communities? Where do air quality\, transit options\, and social equity intersect? In the Pittsburgh region\, our transportation systems have evolved from trolleys and inclines to a center of autonomous vehicle research and a hub of electric vehicle growth. Around the country\, car companies\, utilities\, and communities are working to make electric vehicles and charging stations more affordable and more accessible. It will be essential to prioritize low-income communities and communities of color to ensure that these residents have increased access to clean\, quality transit options while also experiencing reductions in exposure to vehicle-related air pollution.   \nAt this event\, we’ll learn more about the local context of Pittsburgh’s mobility evolution and its future\, and participants. We’ll also hear about projects happening herein our region and in other parts of the country to address the multi-faceted issue of clean transportation.

SUMMARY:Race + Disability: Understanding Intersectional Oppression
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is the launch of the RACE + DISABILITY series sponsored by FISA Foundation\, The Heinz Endowments and The Pittsburgh Foundation\n\n\n\n\nDisability as both a construct and experience has historically been presented as a “white person’s experience\,” but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Studies show that 1in 4 people have a disability\, with representation in every ethnic and racial group. In other words\, where there’s conversation about race\, there’s conversation about disability. This 90-minute workshop will explore disability as an intersectional oppression by digging into why we should consider ableism a social justice issue. We’ll also discuss why historical figures of color have often had their disabilities overlooked and what topical struggles disabled people of color experience today. \nNOTE: This session will be recorded.
