DESCRIPTION:Presented by Biophilia Pittsburgh. \nJoin us for a conversation with Dr. Georgia Silvera Seamans\, a member of the #BlackBotanistsWeek organizing committee. Last year\, a series of social media movements swept the internet and brought attention the lack of racial equity in the sciences and access to nature in the US. Starting with #BlackBirdersWeek\, a response to a racist incident in Central Park\, social media burst with naturalists and researchers of color taking stage and promoting diversity in fields of science with related movements like #BlackInStem\, #BlackInMarineSciences\, #BlackInAstro\, and #BlackInNeuro\, to name a few. Dr. Silvera Seamans will discuss the initiative’s founding\, mission\, and current and future projects. Dr. Silvera Seamans will also share notes on her biodiversity monitoring and education work in NYC.
