SUMMARY:The Disaster Debris Recovery Tool - Materials Management for Debris Planning and Emergency Response
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. EPA Disaster Debris Recovery Tool provides emergency planners and responders at the federal\, state\, tribal and local levels with a tool to plan and implement proper recovery\, recycling and disposal of disaster debris. The scope of the tool reaches beyond disasters to include green remediation and sustainable materials management technical assistance. \nOnce a regional tool\, EPA has expanded and launched a national version this month. The tool now maps location and contact information of over 20\,000 facilities including composters\, demolition contractors\, transfer stations\, landfills\, household hazardous waste collection sites\, and facilities recycling construction and demolition materials\, electronics\, metals\, tires and vehicles. \nEPA experts will present alongside the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management. EPA will give an overview of the new EPA Planning for Natural Disaster Debris Guidance. EPA will also share how the newly expanded national tool can assist responders\, recovery staff and planners and will provide a demonstration of the tool. Representatives of the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management will share their experience using the tool during a 2019 disaster debris planning exercise. \nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:CCI's Home Energy Showcase Wrap Up
DESCRIPTION:Join CCI as they explore home energy efficiency potential through the results of their Home Energy Showcase.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nStarting last August\, 54 Pittsburgh area homeowners signed up to drop pounds of carbon\, reduce energy usage\, and learn more about how to make their house a higher-performing\, more comfortable and healthier home. The Showcase participants who took at least one action reduced their home’s CO2 emissions by an estimated average of 1.3 tons annually. That would take about 30 mature trees growing for a full year to sequester this amount of CO2. As a cohort\, that is equivalent to the climate-saving carbon contribution from 962 mature trees. \nThe 33% energy savings potential identified for these homes demonstrates the powerful impact every homeowner in our region could make by weatherizing their home. According to data from the energy audits performed on the Showcase homes\, average energy reduction potential was 509 therms of gas (or $503 savings on the bill) and 1\,767 kWh (or $239/year)\, equal to 3.7 tons reduction in CO2. \nWant to learn more about how the best of our energy makeover heroes took charge – and be inspired so that you can too? Plan to join us online Wednesday June 17 at 4 p.m. for a celebration of the Showcase as we reveal the prize winners in each competition category. And for a sneak peek\, visit https://getenergysmarter.org/showcase\, to check out details of energy use\, CO2 emissions\, age and size of the buildings\, and family sizes\, saving potential and participants’ stories.

SUMMARY:Sustainability in the COVID-19 Era: Logistics and Supply Chain Management
DESCRIPTION:Webinar brought to you by the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Sustainable Business. \nThe rapid spread of COVID-19 around the world has brought the depth of our interconnectedness into sharp relief. No large company can operate in isolation; getting products and services to customers requires navigating a complex web of parts and raw material suppliers\, manufacturers\, transportation networks\, and energy procurement challenges. Breaks in any link of the chain can cause disruption all along the way and have serious consequences for people’s lives. \nThe ability to adapt supply chains and resolve emerging logistical issues while limiting (or eliminating) negative impacts on society\, the environment\, and the long-term financial health of the company is a critical component of building a more sustainable business. But\, what has this looked like in practice? How are companies adapting their supply chain and operations to respond to the challenges introduced by COVID-19? What lessons can be learned from these adjustments as we look towards building a more sustainable world post-pandemic?

SUMMARY:COVID-19 Casualty: Tax Revenue Where from Here for Regional Municipalities?
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic is anticipated to critically impact nearly $1 billion in tax revenues for southwestern Pennsylvania municipalities. Cities\, boroughs and township – which provide the basic public services that citizens and businesses rely on daily – and will be facing financial crises as a result of the economic shutdown. To get a handle on this\, the Center for Metropolitan Studies at the University of Pittsburgh formed the Municipal Finance Research Collaborative\, with the Allegheny Conference public policy research affiliate – the Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh – as a partner on an analysis that explores answers to these three questions: \n\nWhat was the state of municipal government finances before the pandemic hit?\nHow much municipal revenue will be lost in 2020?\nHow many cities\, townships\, or boroughs will lack the resources to provide basic services and continue to operate in 2020 and 2021?
