“About 70 percent of the world’s population will live in an urban area by 2050, and more than 80 percent of the global GDP comes from urban areas, said Karen Lightman, executive director of Metro21: Smart Cities Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Yet, Lightman added that more than 70 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions also come from urban energy demands. . . .
