Turning food deserts into oases
“As the recent Rand study makes clear, we don’t have to accept the status quo. Government and philanthropy should double down on their investments and work with business owners, banks and healthy-food-access nonprofits to ensure that new and improved supermarkets — and their corresponding health and economic benefits — exist in every ZIP code nationwide. No one should have to wait 30 years for a grocery store, and every child should grow up in a community where affordable, healthy food is within reach.”
