Be part of the solution. Join Sustainable Pittsburgh to advance a more sustainable region.

Since 1998 Sustainable Pittsburgh (SP) has worked strategically to accelerate the policy and practice of sustainability throughout southwestern PA.  From regional policy initiatives that advance at-scale change, to sustainability performance programs that establish essential “best practices” for businesses, governments, and organizations, SP is delivering progress on the uptake of sustainability.

The Green Workplace Challenge (GWC) is one example of how SP is working with businesses, nonprofits, universities, municipalities, and K-12 schools to advance sustainable practices.  During the first three full competitions, more than 200 employers from around the region saved nearly $9 million in energy and enough water to fill Heinz Field with over 93 feet of water.

Jennifer Stockdale, Marketing Specialist at IKEA shared, “IKEA Pittsburgh has really enjoyed being a part of the Green Workplace Challenge again this year.  Just having a checklist of actions to consult helps us to determine more ways that we as a company can work toward a more sustainable footprint. . . It’s so great to know just how much of an impact our combined small actions are making in Pittsburgh!”

The current GWC competition hosts a field of 127 competitors and features a set of new “actions” focused on social equity.  They relate to workplace diversity and inclusivity, governance, transparency, equitable pay and benefits, and more.

Stay tuned to see how these GWC competitors contribute to a culture of sustainability while delivering real ROI for their organizations.  As we say regarding many hands participating in the GWC, every action makes a difference.
