Wilkinsburg and Baldwin selected for Round 2 Pro Bono Technical Assistance to Municipalities

October 16, 2017 by Anthony Closkey

On Friday, September 29, 2017 at their Baywood facility in Moon Township, a generous group of highly skilled volunteers from Covestro learned which municipalities and nonprofits with which they would be matched to provide pro bono sustainability assistance over the course of three months.  The Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management (BCNM) at Robert Morris University, in collaboration with Sustainable Pittsburgh, worked with Covestro to recruit more than 20 corporate volunteers, who learned the basics of professional consulting, nonprofit management, and local government from Peggy Outon and Yvonne Van Haitsma of BCNM, and Jim Price of Sustainable Pittsburgh, before hearing from the leaders of their respective projects.

The municipal projects selected include an update to a sustainability assessment and energy audit for the Borough of Wilkinsburg and a consultation on the creation of a wellness and workers safety plan and committee for Baldwin Borough.  The corporate volunteers working with these municipalities bring expertise including: sustainable business management, human resources, codes and standards, construction, and research and design.  Baldwin and Wilkinsburg are excited to start working with their Covestro volunteers and the volunteers are eager to get started as well.

The consulting project is slated to wrap up on December 15, 2017.  Stay tuned for the results!
