Our mission is to secure the future for our restaurants, farmers, and service industry workers with the help of food lovers beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
In just under six months in 2021, Sustainable Pittsburgh, with the help of a network of partners and donors like you, delivered 14,000 meals to service industry workers impacted by Covid-19.
To accomplish this, Sustainable Pittsburgh partnered with CRAFT at Chatham University to launch Allegheny Eats, a project that directly addressed multiple breakdowns in our region’s food system that were created by the pandemic.
With one purchase of a meal kit via AlleghenyEats.org, food lovers could thank & support restaurant workers, help sustain local farms and producers, reduce food waste, and keep your favorite restaurants running. A portion of the proceeds of each meal kit purchase went directly toward providing a meal to industry workers struggling with food insecurity.
This type of systems-level problem solving is what we do. Throughout southwestern PA, we serve as a teacher, resource, and thought leader — and, as in the case of Allegheny Eats, as a convener and a catalyst.
Sustainability involves connecting the dots and finding solutions that simultaneously advance social equity, environmental stewardship, and prosperity. Thanks to our supporters, and our strong partnerships in the community, we are able to call Allegheny Eats a tremendous success, where we provided critical support in stabilizing our food system during an otherwise unstable situation.
