Helping CEOs responsibly guide AI adoption in ways that strengthen competitiveness, build long-term resilience, and align with organizational sustainability goals.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how organizations operate, make decisions, and compete. At the same time, it introduces new considerations around energy use, emissions, governance, workforce impacts, and long-term risk.

The AI Advisory Council is an initiative within CEOs for Sustainability designed to create space for candid conversation, shared learning, and practical guidance at the intersection of AI and sustainability.

Why AI and Sustainability

For many organizations, the question is no longer whether to adopt AI, but how to manage its impacts once adoption begins.

AI is already influencing operational efficiency, supply chain decision-making, energy demand, and expectations around transparency and governance. These shifts have real implications for emissions, reporting, and long-term business resilience.

The AI Advisory Council helps leaders move beyond hype by grounding conversations in real-world business conditions and shared executive experience.

What the Council Does

The AI Advisory Council convenes CEOs and senior executives through:

  • Small-group, discussion-based sessions focused on real decision-making challenges
  • Targeted briefings from experts on AI infrastructure, energy use, emissions, and governance
  • Peer exchange across sectors to share lessons learned, open questions, and emerging practices
  • Occasional public-facing events or briefings that inform the Southwestern PA region

Focus Areas

The AI Advisory Council focuses on how AI can support resilience, risk management, and long-term value creation.

AI-Enabled Climate and Energy Resilience
Using AI to manage energy volatility, climate risk, and emissions through forecasting, optimization, and scenario modeling.

Operational and Supply Chain Resilience
Applying AI to improve agility, visibility, circularity, and asset performance amid disruption.

Workforce, Skills, and Social Resilience
Preparing people for AI transition through workforce planning, job transformation, and human-centered adoption.

Governance, Trust, and Responsible AI
Establishing leadership-level governance, transparency, and risk management for AI deployment.

Decision Intelligence and Strategic Foresight
Leveraging AI to support better decisions under uncertainty, from scenario planning to portfolio optimization.

CEOs for Sustainability Connection

The AI Advisory Council is housed within CEOs for Sustainability and complements the broader work of the network, including executive convenings, company tours, peer learning opportunities, and the annual Sustainable Pittsburgh Summit.

Insights from the Council may help inform future programming, events, and thought leadership across the network.
