Sustainable Pittsburgh Launches Future Energy Jobs Hub

January 29, 2026 by Martin Eddy Harvey

On January 28, Sustainable Pittsburgh officially launched the Future Energy Jobs Hub, bringing together educators, workforce leaders, employers, community partners, and public-sector colleagues to celebrate the culmination of more than two years of collaborative work. The event marked the public launch of a new, accessible platform designed to help connect people across Southwestern Pennsylvania to clean energy career opportunities and pathways.

The Future Energy Jobs Hub, now live at futureenergyjobs.org, grew directly out of conversations that began in 2021 when Sustainable Pittsburgh first convened the Clean Energy Workforce Roundtable. From the start, partners across workforce development, education, industry, government, and community organizations came together to explore how the clean energy transition could translate into real economic opportunity for the region. As those conversations continued, one challenge surfaced consistently in our meetings: connecting job seekers to jobs. Partners emphasized the need to make clean energy jobs more visible, ensure access is equitable, and clearly show that training and career pathways exist for job seekers regardless of background, experience, or life circumstance.

That shared challenge shaped the creation of the Hub’s two career maps. The Construction and Advanced Manufacturing Career Maps are a product of more than two years of collaboration, partner engagement, and feedback gathered through the Roundtable. Developed in close partnership with employers, educators, workforce organizations, and community partners, these maps are shaped by real-world insight into hiring needs, training availability, and the hurdles job seekers face. They are designed for students entering the workforce, including high school students and those with four-year degrees, as well as adults looking to transition into clean energy-adjacent careers. These maps show how individuals can navigate clear, achievable pathways toward family-sustaining, fulfilling jobs that support both economic stability and a healthier future for our region and the planet.

The Future Energy Jobs Hub brings the maps together in a user-friendly platform that helps job seekers understand how their skills align with in-demand roles, explore training options, and see tangible pathways into careers in construction, manufacturing, and future energy fields. The Hub is designed to meet people where they are and connect them to opportunities that already exist within the region’s workforce ecosystem.

The launch comes at a pivotal moment. According to E2’s 2025 Pennsylvania Clean Jobs Report, clean energy continues to be one of the fastest-growing sectors in the state, growing significantly faster than the rest of the economy. More than 100,000 Pennsylvanians are already employed in clean energy, with many more jobs expected in the coming years. For a region with a deep industrial legacy and a skilled workforce, the clean energy economy presents an opportunity for economic renewal, job quality, and long-term prosperity, if pathways into those jobs are clear and accessible.

The event also highlighted the partnerships behind this work. Opening remarks were shared by John Ukenye and Bhavini Patel of Sustainable Pittsburgh, followed by partner reflections from Bonny Yeager of Partner4Work, Justin Aglio of Penn State’s Readiness Institute, and Lance Harrell of the Master Builders Association. Each speaker reinforced the importance of aligning workforce tools with real hiring needs and ensuring that pathways are practical, inclusive, and grounded in the realities of both employers and job seekers.

Sustainable Pittsburgh extends sincere thanks to the many partners who contributed insight, feedback, and leadership throughout this process. Special thanks go to Julius Education, whose software development expertise powers the Future Energy Jobs Hub, and to TrailBlaze Creative, who assisted with the development of the website, branding, and campaign materials that support the Hub’s rollout. Their combined efforts helped transform years of conversation and collaboration into a platform that is intuitive, engaging, and ready for use.

At its core, the Future Energy Jobs Hub reflects a shared belief in what is possible for this region. It represents hope for inclusive job growth, stronger connections between talent and opportunity, and an energy transition that benefits more people. Now that the Hub is live, we invite partners, educators, workforce organizations, employers, and community groups to explore it, share it within their networks, and use it as a resource to guide conversations about careers and training. If you are interested in partnering with Sustainable Pittsburgh, embedding the Hub into your programming, or hosting a demonstration for your organization or community, please reach out to our Senior Director of Policy and Strategic Initiatives, John Ukenye. This launch is just the beginning, and we look forward to continuing this work together.
