Working Together for Clean Water: How Communities & Businesses are Addressing Our Region’s Stormwater Problem|Working Together for Clean Water: How Communities & Businesses are Addressing Our Region’s Stormwater Problem

Thursday, April 27
8:30 am – 11:00 am (Registration & Networking at 8 am)
ALCOSAN

Sustainable Pittsburgh is teaming up with ALCOSAN for this month’s Green Workplace Challenge workshop!  All are invited to attend to learn how your organizations can play a role in helping to fix the shared challenge of sewer overflows in the region, resulting in cleaner rivers, healthier people, and potential cost savings for organizations.

Workshop participants will hear first-hand from area businesses, communities and municipal leaders about collaborative projects and case studies involving mitigation of stormwater impact.

The region’s sewer system is complex.  It is shared among 83 local municipalities and authorities who own and operate their own collection sewers; thousands of property owners, with sewers of varied ages and structures; and ALCOSAN, which owns and operates the major sewer interceptors and wastewater treatment facility.  When it rains or snows the sewer systems are overwhelmed, resulting in diluted sewage mixed with stormwater and groundwater overflowing into local rivers and streams.  The solution to this problem requires multiple sectors working together.  This workshop provides insight as to what is currently being done to solve the challenge and practical options for how organizations can get involved to make a positive difference.

Join Sustainable Pittsburgh and ALCOSAN for this April 27 event.  After presentations conclude, participants are invited to join ALCOSAN for a tour of the facility.|Thursday, April 27
