“A Taste of Sustainability” Food Tour launches this Saturday

June 16, 2017 by Ginette Walker Vinski

Sustainable Pittsburgh is teaming up with Food Guy Adventures to launch the City’s first sustainability-focused food tour: “A Taste of Sustainability: Cultural District”.  For three Saturdays this summer, June 17, July 15 and August 12, folks can take a guided walking tour that explores the sustainable practices of three designated Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurants in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District:

  • David L. Lawrence Convention Center
  • Nine on Nine
  • Six Penn Kitchen

Along the way, attendees can expect six to eight seasonal appetizer bites and cocktail sips plus a few surprise tastings!

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center earned Platinum Plate designation, the highest designation level that can be achieved to date for a Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant.  Dominique C. Metcalfe, Executive Chef at the Convention Center, says a guided tour from kitchens to the rooftop garden are on the menu for “A Taste of Sustainability”.

Nine on Nine Executive Chef Lee Corbett will be sampling from his innovative menu in the restaurant’s private dining room and Six Penn Kitchen will offer a behind the scenes access tour of its rooftop garden. Nine on Nine and Six Penn are both Gold designated Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurants.

The tours start at 2:30 pm and last three to four hours.  The tour is priced at $85 per person and details are found at foodguyadventures.com/pittsburgh-sustainable-food-tour.  All three restaurants are generously donating their portion of the ticket prices to Sustainable Pittsburgh.
