On Sustainability Message - National League of Cities Conference in Pgh

November 10, 2016 by Anthony Closkey

Next week Pittsburgh again is a rising focus of sustainable cities as the National League of Cities annual conference brings leaders to town. Sustainable Pittsburgh is participating in two workshops:

Sustainability – Think Globally, Act Locally
Thursday, 11/17 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
The United Nations gave us the world’s largest sustainability initiative — the Global Compact. Join UN’s Walid Nagi, chief of Global Compact Local Networks, to learn how the United Nations is transforming sustainability into action by engaging companies, NGOs, government and academia around the world. Chief Sustainability Officer for Covestro, Richard Northcote, will illustrate how the company has aligned its own sustainability strategy with the Global Compact. In the follow-on, Court Gould of Sustainable Pittsburgh and Rebecca Flora of the ReMake Group will review efforts like the City of Pittsburgh’s p4 Performance Measurement program to create a quantifiable system of metrics to inform and improve decision-making on public investments in the City and the newly formed CEOs for Sustainability initiative.

Pittsburgh 3.0: Leveraging Innovative Programs, Practices and Policies to Create a Leading Resilient City
Friday, 11/18 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
With Mayor William Peduto’s COP 21 climate commitments, the expansion of the p4 Initiative, designation by the Rockefeller Foundation as one of the 100 Most Resilient Cities, and the renewed regional interest in the updated Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan, Pittsburgh continues to drive innovation and transformation via significant sustainability endeavors. Panelists will showcase the value of strong partnerships through their insights related to the design and implementation of several strategic programs and platforms:
– Grant Ervin, The City of Pittsburgh’s Resiliency Assessment and the Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan
– Aurora Sharrard, Green Building Alliance, Pittsburgh 2030 District
– Autumn Secrest, Sustainable Pittsburgh, The Green Workplace Challenge
