Instructions for data submission

To share your waste data with Sustainable Pittsburgh, please download this spreadsheet as an excel file and fill in the requested information. The file contains instructions about what and how to report. When the spreadsheet is complete, upload it to the sharing waste data question using the attachment function on the online program portal. You must upload the completed spreadsheet as an excel file with the file name “YYYYMMDD_Organization name_Waste data.” Waste totals must be reported on the spreadsheet in metric tonnes. If your organization has quantified your waste by volume, please refer to these volume to waste conversion factors from the EPA to calculate your totals. If your organization does not know either the volume or weight of the waste you have produced and instead tracks the sizes of waste containers and how often they are disposed of, please refer to these directions from the EPA to estimate the weight of your waste.

The spreadsheet will also auto-calculate your organization’s “Percent Waste Diverted from Landfill” and “Waste Intensity Reduction” to assist with answering those questions. Simply pull the answer from the highlighted yellow cells in the spreadsheet and input that information into the online program portal.

All data shared with Sustainable Pittsburgh remains entirely confidential. It is never shared with the public or any entity outside of Sustainable Pittsburgh. Participant data is used strictly for verification, for awarding points, and to aggregate program results across participants.
