The Planning, Zoning & development section of “Solar Energy: SolSmart’s Toolkit for Local Governments” will help communities integrate solar into local zoning codes to reduce costs, support a thriving local solar market, and increase the use of clean, low-cost, renewable energy. The section provides information on how local governments can incorporate solar energy goals into local planning documents, comprehensive plans, functional plans, or small area plans. Finally, the section identifies how barriers and gaps in code language could affect the deployment of solar energy locally.
