Presented by Pittsburgh Tomorrow
“Green” may not be among the first words that come to mind when people think of Pittsburgh, but in the future, it could be. Our natural surroundings are a huge asset and a big draw for living in this city. Newcomers to the area are often surprised by how green and verdant the area is, and many residents cite our natural beauty as a key reason they love living here. From the rivers and hills to the trees and parks, Pittsburghers love the nature in our backyard.
Of course, Pittsburgh has a fraught history when it comes to the environment, and we must acknowledge and contend with decades of industrial disruption and pollution. But the conservationist movement here – spearheaded by both individuals and prominent organizations – has made a lot of progress in helping us to reclaim and rebuild. At this Pittsburgh Tomorrow Intersection, some of the region’s leading conservationists discuss what modern stewardship looks like, why it’s important, and how we can all conserve and promote Pittsburgh’s natural surroundings for future generations.
