Did you know? Sustainable Pittsburgh can directly help businesses, organizations, and communities improve upon their sustainability efforts.
Our recognition programs provide a step-by-step process to track and measure sustainability progress – whether your organization is just getting started or if you are well on your way. Sustainable Pittsburgh Shop, Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant, Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplace, and Sustainable Pennsylvania are tailored by sector and provide online assessments, tools, and resources that organizations and communities can use to drive measurable impact.
Just this year we were excited to announce the very first organizations to earn Sustainable PGH Workplace designation. This is a brand-new program we launched in 2022. Congratulations to the University of Pittsburgh (Platinum), Allegheny County’s downtown campus (Gold), and Trademark Threads, a small business based out of New Kensington, PA (Silver).
Over the years, more than 250 shops and restaurants have earned sustainable designation in southwestern Pennsylvania. Find where you can shop and dine sustainably and support these businesses! Use the “Finder” tool available on our website to search for Sustainable PGH Restaurants and Shops.
Across the Commonwealth, 120+ municipalities have earned certification, including 69 in southwestern Pennsylvania. That’s well over 3.4 million residents across the state who are benefiting from sustainable policies and practices. Is your community certified? Find out here.
These recognition programs provide tracking of aggregated data like diversity, equity & inclusion metrics; energy usage; waste reduction; and water savings. Sustainable Pittsburgh can use this information to identify areas where businesses and communities might need more support.
We believe that businesses, nonprofits, institutions, and local governments have the power to make this region a better place for all.
Come celebrate our recognition program designees and learn more about how they’ve made an impact in their organizations and communities. Register today for Igniting Change for a Better Tomorrow – Celebrating 25 Years with Sustainable Pittsburgh.
