Small Choices, Big Impact: I Am Sustainable Pittsburgh.
Thank you and congratulations to all who participated in I Am Sustainable Pittsburgh! This inaugural, three-week event ended March 20 and challenged individuals to make small changes in their personal lives that collectively had a big impact for the Pittsburgh region.
Of the 1,115 individuals participating, there were 123 teams representing more than 70 organizations in the Pittsburgh area! (Several of these organizations are also active participants in the Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge, a competition supporting sustainability in the workplace.)
Every action adds up to make a difference and that’s what we are seeing with the results. Highlights include up to:
- 4,122 plastic bottles not sent to the landfill
- 18,997 minutes not spent in front of a screen
- 14,622 pounds of CO2 saved
- 193 hours volunteered
- 98 pounds of paper saved
- 210 locally sourced meals consumed
- 1,119 miles traveled by carpool
