What is Sustainability?
Sustainable communities meet the needs of the present without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. These include environmental needs (e.g., healthy ecosystems), social needs (e.g., opportunities and resources for all), and economic needs (e.g., thriving economies and secure livelihoods). Public, private, and non-profit organizations play essential roles in supporting sustainable communities by reducing their resource use, growing quality jobs, promoting diversity and inclusion, and other tactics.
