Presented by Biophilia Pittsburgh.
Join us for a conversation with Dr. Georgia Silvera Seamans, a member of the #BlackBotanistsWeek organizing committee. Last year, a series of social media movements swept the internet and brought attention the lack of racial equity in the sciences and access to nature in the US. Starting with #BlackBirdersWeek, a response to a racist incident in Central Park, social media burst with naturalists and researchers of color taking stage and promoting diversity in fields of science with related movements like #BlackInStem, #BlackInMarineSciences, #BlackInAstro, and #BlackInNeuro, to name a few. Dr. Silvera Seamans will discuss the initiative’s founding, mission, and current and future projects. Dr. Silvera Seamans will also share notes on her biodiversity monitoring and education work in NYC.
