First Peoples Past & Present: Native Health and Voting Power

Pittsburgh is known as a city with a rich colonial past, but the Native American perspective is often lost in the retelling of this history. Thus, our students (many of whom are from Pittsburgh and broader Pennsylvania), as well as the Pittsburgh community would greatly benefit from learning about the Native people who once lived here and the Native community that now calls this city their home.

This event series will focus on elucidating the Native American past and present in Pittsburgh and across the United States. Beginning with a panel presentation speaking to the current health crisis’ effects on Native communities and the resiliency of Native people, this series will go on to examine topics like the intersection of Black and Native histories and genealogies..
